A SMART COMBINATION ?!!
Cycling in the centre of Marrakech is something for advanced travellers, not in cycling but in getting used to the interpretation of traffic laws by locals.
Green, orange, red colours in traffic light are colours that not always are respected as you should expect. Priority rules, forget it.
It would be safer for you as you would see a crosswalk as a colour combination, usually in yellow or white but forget about the rights attached.
Another thing to forget is claiming your legal traffic rights. You wouldn't be the first one to end up in the emergency or cause an accident because of this. So cycling in Marrakech is not recommended if you only come here on vacation for a week. It's like jumping from rocks into the sea when you at most, only pull a few lines of breaststroke in the swimming pool.
And why are there all those bikes you can rent like in other cities?
Good question.
These are a remnant of the COP22 that took place here in Marrakech a few years ago. The only electric bus connection is another relic.
Cycling is fun, of course, and also in Marrakech.
You will find here quite a lot of fans of ,racing and atv, who practice this beautiful sport as a hobby.
In daily traffic, on the other hand, you don't see many cyclists.
You have just outside Marrakech beautiful routes that you can enjoy, but best with adapted materialand for people like me with an aid motor that takes you over the hills and makes you escape from that crowd of dogs who are looking for a nice chunk :)
Furthermore, I advise you always to practice your favourite sport with a group and plan for a backup somewhere in the form of a phone or "safety car " that can assist you whenever you need it.
For those who want more than one day, there are also programs of several days that will allow you to get to know the Atlas Mountains or the Desert in detail.
In recent years, several organizers have focused on this activity. The feedback from customers has mostly been very positive.
If you participate in an excursion, convince yourself of the quality of the bikes and never sign a waiver, whereas a consequence you afterwards will assume full responsibility.
Another point is the guide. An accompanier is never a guide, and a guide is always an accompanier. Working with a false guide can cause problems and inconveniences not only for the organizing party but also for the participants. In general, controllers will look the other way until there is a problem. In the latter case, the law is applied to the letter.
The role of the guide is defined by law. There is strict control by the tourist police. Mostly in culturally valuable areas and the atlas mountains, where guides are mandatory.
Remember, drive safely and wearing a helmet can not hurt "here" either.
Best time for cycling.
All year round except for the hot summer months and the short rainy season, for offroading. Cool trails can quickly turn into dangerous rivers due to rain or melting water.
