DAY TRIP

We decided for the picturesque village of Imlil which is a beautiful settlement in the Atlas Mountains that offers stunning views and is used by many as a base camp to climb Toubkal, the highest peak in Morocco and in northern Africa.
We wanted to escape the early summer heat of Marrakech and discover the Atlas Mountains and the beautiful village of Imlil. Bring your picnic or have lunch in one of the many local establishments that serve tasty food.
There are many organizations where you can book multi-day tours to climb the Toubkal. In this case, we want to get a feeling for the beautiful surroundings and have a wonderful relaxing day.

We start our excursion to Imlil at 9am from Marrakech in a 4x4
towards the Gorges of Moulay Brahim, and the Berber village of Asni very popular for its weekly market every Saturday. You need a bit more than an hour, but due to our different stops, we drove around two hours to reach our destination where we meet our mountain guide which organized for us a 4 hours trip starting at the foot of the mountains of the western High Atlas ( this time we did it without the help of a mule that can be hired in Imlil). At about 4 pm in the afternoon, we arrived happy and tired in Imlil and took the time to have a mint thee before returning home.
A few remarks.
Perfect season. Spring-early summer.
All paths are marked, but the law requires you to hire a local guide.
It can get quite busy, plan your guide and your mule before you arrive.
We have taken a 4x4, but in regular weather conditions and if you don't plan to go off-road, a normal car will do.
