First, I need to clarify something.
In Marrakech, you can not talk about several seasons, here you have summer and winter and that's about it.
When people ask me when it is the best time to travel my answer has
gradually changed during the last years.
Let's call it local life experience. If a week in a hospital with ice cubes on the noble parts can count as a life experience.
There is no best season to visit Marrakech! Everything depends on what you are planning during your stay.
Do you want to Ski?
If you plan to ski in Oukaimden, then January and February are the months where statistically you have the most chance to do so.
Do You want to Tour?
If you want to tour then April and the spring months are much more pleasant and secure.
Why also, during the short rainy periods and early spring when the snow starts melting there are many rivers (Oued) that swell and just block whole roads. During the winter months and the snowfall can be than the Oekaimden and Tichka are blocked.
If you want to travel during those months, you should always have an alternative in your backpack. These are my famous triangles or circles. I always select destinations that can be reached by at least two roads.
Do you want to play golf?
The golf season in Marrakech runs from End September to June when the temperatures and courses are ideal. However, Mid December to beginning February can be colder and wetter as usual, with the sun setting early behind the horizon.
Do you want to party?
Partying can be done all year round, but especially, from the end of spring through the summer, Marrakech becomes THE PARTY CITY. In summer you have the perfect mix of locals, tourists and MRE's who come to enjoy the particular lifestyle of the red city.
The heat is intense and the air conditioning on max is just capable, to cool your room down to 30°C ( 86°F). The day temperature rises to 51°C (123.8°F) and every time you get in your car, you curse that you have chosen leather seats. So the only way is to adapt your internal clock to the summer. Go to sleep late 04.00 05.00 am in the morning, take a late breakfast, stay in shade next to the pool until 7 pm and start to prepare for another night in town.
If you can see Marrakech is a year-round destination where everyone can practice their beloved activity.
In future posts, we will undoubtedly elaborate in more detail on the various activities from hiking to wakeboarding.
Tip,
The winter sun is treacherous and many people who come here are just walking through the day in a t-shirt which seems logical.
The temperature differences in this zone, which is equal to the desert climate, are extreme. Temperature differences of 25 °C (77°F) are not uncommon between day and evening.
