MARRAKECH & MALLS

Which shopping mall suits you?

The shopping malls are a relatively new feature in Marrakech. The first only dates back ten years.

The three shopping malls are, located in the zones Gueliz, Hivernage and the new zone of Agdal. Each of them has its particularities and its reasons to go there.

Another characteristic of a shopping mall, especially here in Marrakech, is that it is like a living organism. You keep finding brands that have disappeared and other new ones that are taking their place.

My favourite places to wander around in the middle of winter or summer to escape from the "bad weather" :).

Almazar

The Almazar shopping mall was the first one in the city of Marrakech.

It was part of the development of the new tourist zone Agdal. Almazar opened its doors for the first time on 10 April 2010.

Almazar counts with three floors.-1, ground level and +1.

At -1 you will find the largest Carrefour hypermarket in Marrakech and the surrounding area and is one of the centres of attraction.

Combine this with a spacious free parking area & you know where you are going to do the big weekly shopping. At -1 you will also find medium-sized to medium-sized shops with cheaply priced clothing and a large sports outlet store.

On the ground floor, you have more a multitude of smaller boutiques going from upmarket shoe shops, over international clothing brands to interior design stores and everything in between.

On the first floor (third floor of the mall) you have a food court, a bowling alley, a children's playroom and a gym.

The Almazar shopping centre is loved by locals as well as guests of nearby hotels.

Advantages: Large car park; free parking. (pay attention when driving out of the house, the gradient is quite sharp) . Variety of stairs, escalators and lifts that facilitate mobility.

Architektonically Almazar is a smart construction that gives you a feeling of space. Not all the shops are located along a central aisle.

Another plus point, the large hypermarket, the variety of shops, the outlet store.

Nice to combine for the children with the playground or bowling fast food and then 150 meters further to Megarama to take a movie.

What can be improved?

The first ten years have left their marks and the food court, in particular, has suffered from closures and changes.

General opinion. A family mall where you can go for everything and don't have to stress for parking.

Carré Eden.

The Shopping Mall in the city- centre of Gueliz.

Carré Eden is a commercial centre located in the quartier of Guéliz à Marrakech. It opened its doors on 8 May 2014 and replaced Guillez March, which was also called the Central Market, the date of the protectorate.

It is located right in the centre of Located on Mohammed V Avenue, Tariq Ibn Ziyad, Souriya and Liberté Streets, Carré Eden, with its 15400 m² spread over three floors, is the smallest of the 3three malls.

On the side of Avenue Mohammed V, the Radisson hotel is, perfectly well integrated into the whole concept with its rooftop swimming pool as the icing on the cake. It's a real city mall where you can easily stroll in on one side and leave the mall on the other side and continue your walk.

Here you also have three floors. -1, ground floor and +1.

The easiest way is to use the parking, even if it's paying, in the summer it's a good alternative for the hot temperatures. Many bumpers have lost colour on the caracol driveway of the car park, so concentrate for a moment. I usually have my car cleaned here - parking -2.

The market of carrefour is at -1 together with one of the better hairdressing salons for ladies and gentlemen + several different boutiques + one floor of the big Waikiki store.

On the ground floor, there are several smaller boutiques + the exclusive brand for this mall "H&M". The top floor is divided equally between a food court and further shops and a small children's play area.

Advantages; A well-run mall that has been, fully integrated with the daily life of Gueliz. It is small and surveyable and offers a mix from cheaper brands to upmarket brands. The only, H&M, from Marrakech, can be found here.

What could be better?

Apart from a car park which is to be free of charge for customers who do their shopping here and the small capacity of the lifts and a single escalator, this is and remains a cosy little town mall which has taken over the function of the "marché central" beautifully.

Menara Mall

Opened in 2015, this shopping mall located in the HIvernage covers a total area of 50000 m2 and is an annexe to the hotel Savoy 5*.

There is one central main corridor of which the central escalator and the, two elevators that take you to different floors. You can also gain access through Carrefour Market on the ground floor or through the garage where an escalator or elevator takes you to the commercial area. Parking is spacious but especially at the weekends can fill up quickly and is charged. As you drive out of the car park directly around one of Marrakech's central arterial roads, this can occasionally take up some time.

On the three floors, you will find a large children's games room with a small ice rink and a whole range of fast food from pizza to kebab. But be sure to take a seat on the terrace; here, on the south side, you have an incredible 180° panoramic view from the Koutoubia to the airport. Not to be missed!

The second floor, which in the beginning was part of the children's experience with theatre and other activities made space for more shops.

The first floor. On the first floor, you will find the souk concept where you will find the traditional products found in the different medinas of Morocco. Opposite, you will have further smaller and bigger shops and the first floor of Burger King.

On the ground floor, you will find the major telephone companies with on the right-hand side mainly shops ranging from hairdressers to beauty salons.

In the centre- middle, there is an atrium where you will find the penguins swimming against the stream .(A beautiful wall sculpture.)

The attraction point can be found without a doubt on the ground floor. Here, you'll find a bunch of top bakeries, restaurants and better snacks that have settled down here and offer their delicacies. You immediately imagine yourself on some avenue of another metropolis. Depending on the season, all this is animated by the largest computer-controlled fountain in Marrakech.

Advantages: Large car park (payable).

Perfect location. Large terraces on the ground and third floor with beautiful views. Very nice in summer to escape the intense heat. Largest playground for children of Marrakech. My favourite place for a Sunday morning daddy-daughter moment with a delicious breakfast followed by a little play and stroll.

What Could be better?

Parking could be free for people who spend money here.

Although you will find several different boutiques, for the time being, you will not find a whaw brand for which you would come here especially.
